This ingenuous machine was a form of index typewriter, enabling a complex large set of kanji to be selected kanji by kanji to be typed via hammer method onto paper. While not fast, this machine did enable clean documents to be written, primarily for the business sector. While a first in many Japanese innovations, Toshiba was not the first company to manufacture typewriters in Japanese.
